Public Relations
The public relations area of the division specializes in media relations, public relations, internal communications, and crisis communications.
The division's public relations staff offers coaching and technical assistance in media relations, public relations, and crisis communications to the Board of Trustees, the Office of the Chancellor and individual campuses.
Public relations includes cultivating relationships with reporters, editors, producers and other members of the media; proposing stories for publication; issuing news releases about system and board actions and responding to media inquiries on behalf of the Board of Trustees, the chancellor and the Office of the Chancellor.
News clippings about Minnesota State Colleges and Universities are also compiled regularly and distributed to a list of interested persons, including Board of Trustees members and Office of the Chancellor staff.

Experts from the academic world can add important context to breaking news stories and serve as excellent guests on talk and news shows, and some may write opinion pieces. The media source guide is a search tool that helps the representatives of the media connect with faculty experts throughout the Minnesota State system.
